Workout gear, either because it’s put through the ringer so often or because it is definitively dirty after one use — seems to be one thing I never have enough of in my closet.
Not to mention the fact that materials are getting smarter and better at a rate that would require a lot of energy — or trips to the mall — to keep up with and assess on my own.
I know the stores I trust and the number I’m willing to spend, but sometimes it would be great to just outsource the whole thing to someone who knew the industry and gear best.
Unless Under Armour made their new no-fee subscription service ArmourBox just for me, a lot more people feel that way, too.
The new program doesn’t veer drastically from most subscription services you’re likely familiar with already. One difference worth mentioning, though, is that there’s no fee. You sign up for free, get a box every 30, 60, or 90 days (whichever you want) filled with things an expert picked out for you, and then you’ve got a week to try on everything. Keep what you want, return what you don’t. You’ll only be charged for what you keep.
And if you decide to keep it all, you’ll get 20% off.
Let the experts read through your goals, needs, sizes, and style and pick the best materials and designs for the task at hand, so you can spend more time doing what you love, in the very best gear for the job.
To get started, all you have to do is click male or female and you’ll be prompted by these visual cues (I clicked female):
First, you’ll be asked to divulge your fitness goals.
This will help your Official Outfitter pick new gear that best helps you achieve your goals. Paired with a native, reliable knowledge of their gear, materials, and benefits, they can better suit your needs. Select as many as apply.
As well as where you’re normally found wearing fitness gear.
If you’re looking for more comfort and flexibility while weight training, you’re going to need something different than you would if you want to improve your hiking. If you like to do all four, feel free to check them all.
You’ll also be asked what sort of activities get you active.
Knowing what you plan on using it for helps your stylist pick out gear that will make for a better performance and experience. Select as many activities as you want.
Then, you’ll describe your style, so they can cater high-performance wear to you.
Help your stylist understand what your style is so they can pick out clothes that improve performance and fit nicely with the rest of your wardrobe. Just like the other options, you can select as many as apply.
Select the right sizes for each item, and write as many notes as you want to help them make the right decisions on fit and design.
You’ll be prompted to enter sizing information (with the ability to get more specific and add notes below in the text box) for top, bottoms, and bras if applicable. If you’re unsure, they offer measurements as well. You can also include helpful info in the box below (ie. I typically find tops of this brand too tight in this size, etc).
If you think of something you’d like to add, you can send a note to your Official Outfitter (or, stylist) anytime from your dashboard.
The same goes for shoes.
After filling out the questionnaire, an Official Outfitter will read through your specifics and select 4-6 items from the UA Gear selections that will fit your needs, style, and goals. Then about 10 days later, they’ll all show up on your doorstep.
Next, you’ll fill out shipping and billing info, but you’ll only be charged for what you keep after the box arrives (except for a temporary $1 charge to validate your card is real).
You’ll see a $1 charge from Under Armour to determine your card is valid, but once that’s confirmed Under Armour will credit it right back. There’s no fee for the ArmourBox, you’ll just be charged for the items you keep after the week-long try-on period when you submit your feedback.
How to do that? Head to your dashboard to fill out your feedback. You’ll be asked about every item, so you can tell them what you’re keeping and why it works. You’ll only see charges for what you keep, and the rest you can send back free of charge with prepaid shipping labels.
If you don’t get around to mailing everything back immediately after, as many of us might not, it’s good to know that you’ve got some wiggle room. Under Armour will only charge you for items they don’t receive back within 30 days. If you don’t want the items, after all, you can still ship them back within 60 days and they’ll update your charges.
And if you keep everything, you’ll get 20% off.
Remember, though, that the ArmourBox allows you to get expert input, try things on at home, and see some new Under Armour items free from pressure to buy or take a trip to the store. But unless you’re definitely going to keep it, don’t wear anything from the box to the gym and expect to be able to send it back for a return. Just try things on for fit until you’re sure of what you want to keep.
Once your box arrives, you’ve got a week to try things on and return what you don’t want within a 30-day window free of charge.
Your first ArmourBox will come around 10 days after you sign up. Once you get it, you’ve got seven days to try on everything (which should be 4-6 items depending on what was picked out for you by the Official Outfitter). After the trial period, let Under Armour know what you’ll be keeping in the dashboard section of your account, and send the rest back free of charge.
No problem if you want to exchange something. You can swap any item for a different size or color when you submit feedback and checkout through your dashboard. Just remember to return the original item.
ArmourBox comes every 30, 60, or 90 days depending on your needs. As of now you can’t pause or skip, but there’s also no pressure to buy or fee for the subscription. If you want to change how frequently they come, just head to the “Manage Account” tab in your dashboard to change delivery options under “Subscription Settings.”
